The importance of this building in the history of architecture - and of the creation Beaver County - is unquestionable, and the quality of restoration here is truly astonishing. But the information on the newly-erected Walk of History panels is highly selective and slanted. For example, at the start, one learns that the Native Americans "...roamed" this area, apparently removing any indigenous 'claims' to the territory. Despite the applaudable wealth of attention to detail in memorializing otherwise unknown local buildings, families, and minorities, the writer (using "We" as the textual voice) creates a spurious narrative wherein Shell will lead the county into the future after a period of socio-economic decline. This is enshrined by a final image of the new county courthouse, a sad pastiche of a shopping mall. I could not, however, find an image of either the stunning, original Art Deco courthouse, or the acreage of riverbank stripped to accommodate Shell's industriousness.
